RCIA: RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

The Rite of Christian Initiation is the process whereby adults are welcomed in the Catholic Church. This process is open to people who want to understand and experience more fully what it means to believe in Jesus and to live out their faith as Catholics. Any adult who has never belonged to the Catholic Church, but is now attracted to membership in it, is welcome. The RCIA process is also designed for those who were already baptized into the Church but not fully catechized as children.

Instead of solo meetings with a priest, the participant's journey of faith is based on informal meetings with a team of lay persons. These meetings, held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm, seek to explain our Catholic Faith through instruction, sharing, and discussion. Participants are also asked to attend Sunday Mass, even if they have not yet received any sacraments.

Evenings of Instruction usually begin in mid-October and extend through April. During this time, there are three liturgical stages which ritualize the RCIA conversion process. these are: Inquiry, Catechumenate and Election. Inquiry (or Pre-Catechumenate) is a time for questioning and for discovery of awakened faith; Catechumenate is a time of formal acceptance of the intention to pursue growth in the faith; Election marks the transition from intention to formal consecration of intent to receive the sacraments. At the end of these stages of growth in faith, the participants will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist at the Solemn Easter Vigil Mass and will take their place as full members of the Catholic Community.

There can be no time frame or limits to an individual's faith development. Each person is encouraged to progress at his or her own pace.

Most Blessed Sacrament RCIA welcomes with joy all who seek to know the Lord and to grow in faith, hope, and love.

If you know of someone, a friend, neighbor, spouse, co-worker, etc. whom you feel is searching for something more in life, invite him/her to consider the RCIA experience. If you, yourself, have been waiting for this kind of opportunity, please contact:
